Earth Day is Saturday, April 22nd this year, and inspired our theme for “A Girl’s Garden.” The title refers to a poem by Robert Frost in which a young girl asks her father “to give her a garden plot to plant and tend and reap herself”. Join us in the garden and you will hear a bird’s lullaby, bumblebees buzzing, Japanese fireflies and a Swedish folksong reminding us that “Now is the time for living”.

The centerpiece of ASTER’s April concert is American composer Vincent Persichetti’s “Spring Cantata”. By turns mystical and playful it will be enhanced by Sara Love’s reading of poems by E. E. Cummings.

The choir and soloists will offer selections from “The Secret Garden” by composer Lucy Simon along with “Morning Has Broken”, the Andrews Sisters’ “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree”, and the ever popular “Over the Rainbow” to complete the concert.
