ASTER celebrates its 20th season with a concert featuring music which has a special place in the hearts and minds of the singers and our audience members.
We hope that you will join us for this special event. ASTER has stayed true to its mission of “Exploring Women’s Lives and Music,” and this concert is no exception. Sacred selections will include music sung by the Nuns of Chester, gospel favorite “His Eye is on the Sparrow” and “O Unico Amore”, a piece which ASTER commissioned to honor Mother Cabrini. The program will also feature a powerful setting of Sojourner Truth’s speech “And Ain’t I a Woman”. Her words still ring true today.
Audiences who remember ASTER’s three different staged productions of “Quilters” will delight in a group of pieces from Barbara Damashek’s wonderful portrayal of the lives of pioneer women who lived on the prairie. We will close the program by paying tribute to Iconic Women of Song. You will hear Edith Piaf’s “La Vie en Rose”, the Andrews Sisters’ “Java Jive” and Mahalia Jackson’s “God Put a Rainbow in the Sky”.
